Biography: Vicki is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio and comes to bluegrass music via her parents, who listened to bluegrass and country music for as long as she can remember. A few years ago she happened upon a local public radio station that played traditional bluegrass and country music. She fell in love with the music and from then on that was all she could listen to as it took her back to the music she grew up with. It was on this station that she first heard the Friday morning broadcasts and Gracie Muldoon, now Station Manager for World Wide Bluegrass. "Gracie had such a great personality and enthusiasm for her show", Vicki recalled.
In 2003, Vicki decided she would learn to play the banjo and that Christmas her husband surprised her with one. "I didn't even know how to hold the thing", she says, "and I couldn't believe how heavy it was!" Having no idea of who to contact for lessons, she e-mailed Gracie Muldoon at the radio station to see if she could recommend anyone. It is from this contact that she came to know Gracie. A year later, Gracie contacted Vicki about getting a women's bluegrass jam group together. Vicki's circle of bluegrass friends has kept growing and she loves going to the bluegrass festivals and running into people who also enjoy the music.
Becoming a DJ has helped Vicki learn more about the music and the artists. And learning an instrument really helped her appreciate the dedication and talent that these artists must have.
Vicki still lives in the Cincinnati area. She and her husband, Rob, have been married for 29 years and have three daughters who are married and living in Ohio, Texas and Tennessee. |
