Show: Ole Dominion Jamboree Monday 9pm-11pm EDT
Description: Jim Ellis was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, but moved to
southwest Nebraska at a young age. It was while he was growing up in
Nebraska that he discovered his parent's 8-track and 4-track collection of
Classic Bluegrass. Around the age of 12 he had saved his paper route
money to buy a cheap Sears and Roebuck mandolin with a warped neck. While
everyone else was listening to "rock" Jim was already walking to the beat
of a different drummer (or mandolin player). He moved back to North
Carolina and, after a ten-year career as a baker, he graduated with honors
from a historically Black University, with a degree in Accounting. He was
the first Caucasian to be a member of the Student Government Body at North
Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, and served on the
Chancellor's Council on Diversity. Jim earned his Certified Public
Accountant license in the state of North Carolina before relocating to
Richmond, Virginia. Since moving to Richmond he has become active in the
local Bluegrass music scene. First he founded the website
www.VaBluegrass.com, and more recently with a business partner, he started
Third Hill Productions, L.L.C. They produce the syndicated radio show
"The Ole Dominion Jamboree" which is aired on WLEE 990AM Richmond, WCLM
1450 Highland Springs, 1340 WHAP Hopewell and 990 WNRV Narrows-Pearisburg.
Although only a mediocre mandolin player, he loves the Bluegrass music,
community and history of acoustic string music. Jim hopes to play some
small part in helping Bluegrass music prosper in his adopted state of
Virginia. Please join him and listen to "Ole Dominion Jamboree", to hear
some outstanding Virginia Bluegrass music. |
