Biography: Geoff Morris was born about the same time Bill Monroe released his
Bluegrass tune "Tennessee Blues." Geoff's lack of sight from birth was
just another world to adapt to, and acted as a driving force, or spur, to
help enable him to tackle and overcome all obstacles. Trained as a
classical pianist, Geoff actually preferred the enjoyment of singing, solo
or in a choir. A folk festival in Sydney, Australia, in the late '60s
offered his first hearing of Bluegrass music, an experience which, in many
ways, changed his life. He says, "I loved the rich, complex brilliance,
yet naturalness, of this remarkable music and, of course, marveled at the
wonderful close harmony singing." Geoff then bought his first Bluegrass
record, "an LP of Charlie Moore," Geoff recalls, and he was hooked on
Bluegrass music. In recent times, he has sung in a couple of local
Bluegrass groups, helped promote several very successful Bluegrass gigs
and, for the past several years, hosted a weekly Bluegrass radio show. It
is the only Bluegrass program of its kind ever broadcast on local radio in
Central Victoria, Australia. Geoff is married and has three daughters.
"None of whom," Geoff shrugs, "like Bluegrass at all. Must have done
something wrong there"! Geoff's 2007 epic bluegrass adventure was a seven
weeks pilgrimage to the heart of Bluegrass America, where, he declares
unreservedly, he had one of the best times of his life. He enjoyed trips
to the Jerusalem Ridge Festival and the Monroe home place, visiting Jimmy
Martin's grave and meeting Doc Watson. Geoff said he not only heard some
superb bluegrass music but it was especially nice getting to know some
wonderful people. He is always a bundle of enthusiasm as he does what he
loves, playing and talking about Bluegrass music. Geoff has felt very
much a part of the Worldwidebluegrass.com family since beginning to listen
and taking an active DJ role. In April, 2008 Geoff celebrated his 100th
show with World Wide Bluegrass. You are invited to enjoy the experience
of Geoff's passion for Bluegrass music by listening to his show "Wall to
Wall Bluegrass" on Mondays from 11:00 PM to 1:00 AM EDT and on Fridays
from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM. |
