Name: Charlie Hall City: Lexington Region: Kentucky Country: US Email: Kybanjopicker@aol.com
Website: www.myspace.com/banjopickinDJ
Show: Kentucky Home Place Tuesday 8pm-10pm EDT
Biography: Charlie started playing his Bluegrass banjo in 1972 and began playing
Bluegrass professionally in 1974. His first Bluegrass banjo playing
approach was patterned after the Stanley banjo style. After a couple of
years, and since J.D. Crowe was regularly playing around Lexington,
Kentucky, Charlie's style switched to more like J.D. Crowe's playing
style. It is more like the Earl Scruggs/Sonny Osborne style. Charlie has
played and traveled all over, with some of the better Bluegrass Bands in
this area. Bands like "The Bluegrass Thoroughbreds", "The Next Of Kin
Band", "The Bluegrass Store Pickers" (Ricky Wasson, who sings lead and
plays guitar with J.D. Crowe, was in that band), "John Cosby And The
Bluegrass Drifters" and others. One of the highlights of his picking
years has been traveling to Tokyo, Japan in 1998 and playing Bluegrass
with a Japanese Bluegrass Band while there. For the past couple of years,
a break has been taken from being as actively involved in a Bluegrass
Band, but he does play his banjo every day and still plays a show, from
time to time. Being out on the Bluegrass music road, has afforded Charlie
opportunities to meet a lot of the greats in Bluegrass music: Bill Monroe;
Lester Flatt; Earl Scruggs (who has allowed Charlie to pick with him at
his home); Bobby and Sonny Osborne; and of course J.D. Crowe; along with
many, many more lovers of Bluegrass music. Charlie is very pleased to be
personal friends with J.D. Crowe, Don Wayne Reno, Ronnie Reno, Charlie
Cushman and many, many more. Charlie Hall's live and all Bluegrass Show
"Kentucky Homeplace" can be tuned in on Tuesdays from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM, at the greatest Bluegrass music site on the internet, the WWB,
