Description: Ted Hatfield lives in Rocky Gap, Virginia, which is in southwest Virginia
and borders West Virginia. Born in Bluefield, West Virginia, Ted lived in
Rocky Gap until age 5, when his family moved to Bluefield. After
graduating high school, Ted was hired as a police officer for the City of
Bluefield, West Virginia, and retired from that position. Ted has been
employed by a musical instrument business in Bluefield, West Virginia
since
1999, and is the repair service manager. He is president of the
Appalachian Highlands Music Association (AHMA) in Princeton, West
Virginia, which has a goal to promote, preserve, and foster bluegrass and
old time music. The AHMA also provides monthly shows and scholarships in
the form of instruments and lessons to local children, ages nine to twenty
one years, who are interested in playing bluegrass music. Ted is also the
president of the Camp Creek State Park Foundation in Camp Creek, West
Virginia. No stranger to music, Ted played trumpet and saxophone in
school and played bass guitar for the country band, Country Knights, for
twelve years. In the year 2000, Ted joined the Midnight Ramblers String
Band, based in Athens, West Virginia, as a guitar player. In 2003, Ted
started playing mandolin for the group, a position he still holds today.
Ted loves bluegrass, bluegrass gospel, and old time music. Thanks to the

with everyone during his program "Ramblin' Ted's Bluegrass Road Show" on
