Biography:
Steve Cullen was born in Monterey California. His family was career military, so they did a fair amount of moving, living in California, Germany, Alabama, Oklahoma and finally settling in Virginia. His father was an avid country music fan and respected guitar player, and he passed on the love of that music and ability to Steve. Steve explored other
genres of music while growing up, but always kept his love for simple, heartfelt country music. One horrible snowy evening he stopped at a little restaurant in Arlington Virginia that was advertising “live music.” The band turned out to be a variation of the Seldom Scene and since the weather was so bad, Steve was the only patron in the place. This opportunity let him get up close and personal with the performers, pick and sing a bit with them and launched a love for bluegrass music that has grown tremendously. He switched from playing pedal steel guitar in a country band to singing and playing bluegrass. He currently plays guitar, sings both lead and harmony (but seldom at the same time) with the bluegrass band, Sound Of Mind. Steve and Dawn have two grown children, Dan and Amanda. Steve accidently found the WWB and instantly fell in love with not only the incredible music, but the quality of the people he was so warmly welcomed by, and is honored to be a part of an organization that spreads the joy of this wonderful music. |
