Biography: My name is Hans Wolters. Born and raised in a town called Geleen.
I was about 12 years old when I first came in contact with bluegrassmusic. The minute I heard it, it turned a knob inside and I said that's the music I want to play.
I started practicing the banjo when I was 12. By the time I got 14 I went on stage for the first time, together with my brother and the band he played in.
Soon I became better then my brother and I took over the banjo part. Since then I've been playing the banjo.
I visited the US for the first time in 1989, where I visited a friend who'm I met in Holland while he was stationed in Germany. Now I visit the States once or twice a year.
Most of the time I visit Tennessee, Kentucky and Virginia. Once in a while I go to California to visit friends there and go to the Grass Valley Bluegrass festival.
Last year was my 20th year that I visited the Festival of the Bluegrass in Lexington Ky. This is where I met Gracie Muldoon and this is the place where we first started talking about me becoming a DJ for the WWB.
Before that I visited the WWB for almost 4 years as a listener and chatter.
Here in Holland I play with two bands. A local band where I play little banjo but mostly bass...we play Rock and Roll / Hillbilly from the 50's. We are together for almost 16 years now.
The other band I play in is bluegrass only I started with that band 5 years ago. We played in Litowania - France and the Czech-republic.
Beside that I frequently play in a Czech bluegrass band (if work allows it). With that band I played in Holland - Czech republic and France.
In my daily life I am a Polymer Chemist (I do tests on plastic...ect.) and I work shifts.
I'm a big fan of JD. Crowe and Red Allen. My favorite bluegrassmusic is music from the 50's. |
