Biography:
Revonda Roberts was born in Bethesda, Maryland and moved to her parents' home town of Iaeger, West Virginia when she was 11. Her life has always revolved around music and while she was growing up, all sorts of instruments could be found in her home and her mother's singing filled the air, not to mention her dad's countless number of records and tapes. Her favorite album cover was Act I by the Seldom Scene because of the play on words with the band's name and how they were only partially seen on the cover. She would choose a new album over just about anything else and would spend hours learning all of the songs and she was so involved with the whole process that she would read all of the liner notes and credits. That love of music kept evolving and she asked her dad for a fiddle when she was in the fourth grade. Revonda comes from a long line of Appalachian bluegrass musicians and singers with her great grandfather, grandfather and uncle all playing banjo while her dad chose guitar. So, it was quite natural that bluegrass was the genre of choice and it was always ringing throughout the house and she credits riding down the road in the back seat of her parents cars singing song after song. A note of interest was that her first song was Bill Monroe's 'Mule Skinner Blues' at the age of 2-1/2. While she didn't know every word of the song since she was so young, her mother well recalls Revonda standing up in the back seat of the car and singing out every word she could. Her parents encouraged her to sing and her dad would record her on a reel-to-reel tape player. (He still has those tapes!) There were many times when he'd provide an audience of friends for a special 'concert' given by his young daughter. With the encouragement of her parents and husband, she feels that she is living a dream by having the chance to continue singing and playing fiddle by fronting her group, Revonda Roberts & Harvest Wind. She feels blessed to have her husband, Lonnie, playing mandolin and son Justin on banjo and also guitar. The group plays all original material written by Revonda and Justin. Her mother, Brenda, is also a songwriter and Revonda feels that is a great honor to both sing and record her songs as well. Their website is www.revondarobertsandharvestwind.com and they welcome all to sign their new Guest Book that can be found on the website's home page. In addition to writing songs, she has also written many short stories and poems and is excited to write for the WWB and looks forward to this new chapter in her life.
