Name: Danny Hensley City: Powell Region: Tennessee Country: US Email: danny@worldwidebluegrass.com
Website: www.southernbranchbluegrass.com
Biography: Danny was born and raised in East Tennessee and grew up playing guitar and singing in church. He continued to learn to play several musical instruments throughout the early part of his life and expanded his musical interests toward rock and southern rock. After playing with several groups, many flavors and interests reared their head and he played in a progressive jazz group with a combo of rock, southern rock, folk and Americana. Danny experienced several gaps in his musical career due to attending school and having many responsibilities towards family and raising children.
The bug of pick’n and singing hit hard again in the 80’s and Danny returned to his roots of singing in church and played with the gospel group “Promise” and eventually formed and was front man for a successful southern gospel group “The Christian Heart Band”. After two studio projects and traveling on the road with the ministry, Danny's family took first priority again and the musical career was put on hold while the children completed their education and started families of their own.
At a riper age now, Danny has the pick’n bug again with the desire to write and perform bluegrass music and contribute to Appalachian and Mountain music traditions and has a strong desire to preserve the heritage and unique culture that goes along with these practices.
After attending tons of bluegrass shows and festivals the idea of being a radio DJ to promote the music was inspired by how wonderful the bluegrassers were from performers to the promoters and especially the crowds. This culture is amazing and a door was opened to host a weekly show on the WWB and thus “The Southern Branch Bluegrass Show” was born.
The show will feature a variety of new grass and gospel grass music and hopes that he can enhance the listener base and prove to be a benefit to the web station and achieve his goals of promoting and preserving the heritage behind the best music in the world. |
