Description: From the South Shore of Nova Scotia, this award winning Bluegrass Band has
been entertaining fans for over 25 years. A favorite at many maritime
festivals, Close To Home has also appeared at venues in Ontario and Maine.
Known for their smooth blend of harmony singing and great acoustic
instrumentation, their repertoire includes traditional and contemporary
favorites as well as an impressive list of original material.
Close To Home recorded their first album in 1988, which won recording of the
year at the Eastern Canadian Bluegrass Music Awards. Their CD, “All in good
tyme” was released in the spring of 2003 and their long awaited gospel CD,
“One Sunday Morning”, recorded in 2005, is the bands most recent project.
Close To Home appeared frequently on the popular CTV television series “Up
Home Tonight" during the 1980’s and was featured on CBC's “Atlantic
Airwaves”. In addition to the Bluegrass festival circuit they have also
taken the stage at “Stanfest ” in Canso and Lunenburg's “Folk Harbour
Festival".
Over the years Close To Home have won numerous Eastern Canadian Bluegrass
Music awards including Band of the Year, Vocal Group on four occasions and
in 2005, lead singer Kevin Baker received the Male Vocalist award for the
fifth time, an ECBMA master recognition.
The band is comprised of Gordon Hubley on banjo, Richard Hubley on bass, Jim
Bollivar on guitar and Kevin Baker on mandolin.
