Interviewer: Gracie Muldoon

Description:
Terry began playing music as a child and although his father exposed him to both country & western and bluegrass, his enthusiasm about banjo is a typical story among players his age: it was the Beverly Hillbillies tv show that turned him on. Prior to going professional, Baucom played in his father's band for several years. In 1972, he was playing fiddle in the Charlie Moore Band. He formed Boone Creek with Ricky Skaggs, Jerry Douglas and Wes Golding in the early 70's. After two years Boone Creek disbanded and Baucom went on to Lawson's original Quicksliver which kept him busy until the mid 80's. The spin-off New Quicksilver was next, followed by IIIrd Tyme Out in the early 90's. In 1993 Terry and Lou Reid started a new band called Caroline. Baucom, Bibey, Graham and Haley came together in the late 90's. Baucom won the "Instrumental Recording of the Year" at the 2001 IBMA awards show and has created an instructional video for fancy banjo picking. Terry has been a force on the bluegrass scene since the 70's and is considered bluegrass royalty by many. Naturally, such a talent has been in demand for solos on different recording projects. Speed has earned him the nickname "the Duke of Drive". Terry displays a beautiful bass voice and can play multiple instruments.
